Early access · $20 first scan
Early access. Your first DEXA scan, $20.
We're opening in Duluth, and we're running a preview period first — a smaller group of early guests, while we get the booking flow, the scheduling and the report turnaround right. Join the list and your first DEXA scan is $20 instead of the $50 we'll charge once we're fully open.
- $20 — your first DEXA scan during our preview period
- $50 — our grand-opening price once we're fully open
- No cap. Everyone who joins the list before we open gets it.
One $20 DEXA scan per person, redeemable on your first visit once we open. Applies to the DEXA scan only, not to VO₂ max or RMR. Not transferable and not combinable with other offers. We'll email you when booking goes live — that and nothing else. No health information is collected on this page. Prefer email? Write to hello@basemarks.health.
What a scan costs around here
We checked. Here's the whole market.
Published one-time prices for a DEXA body composition scan in metro Atlanta, August 2026. Three of these operators make you start a booking before they'll tell you — so we've listed what they charge once you get there.
What we test
Three measurements, one visit.
Book one, or book all three and walk out with a complete baseline in under an hour.
01 — DEXA
What you're actually made of.
Fat, lean tissue and bone, measured separately and reported region by region — each arm, each leg, your trunk. Not a single number inferred from your height and a guess at your hydration.
02 — VO₂ Max
What your engine can do.
A graded exercise test measuring how much oxygen your body can actually use under load. It establishes your true training zones — including the Zone 2 range most people guess at — and it is among the best-evidenced markers of long-term cardiorespiratory health.
03 — RMR
What you actually burn.
Your resting metabolic rate, measured from your breath rather than predicted by a formula. Standard calculators can be off by hundreds of calories a day in either direction, which is enough to explain a plateau that looks inexplicable on paper.
What a DEXA scan measures
Four numbers a bathroom scale can't give you.
A DEXA scan separates your body into fat, lean tissue and bone — and reports each one region by region, so you can see change where it actually happens.
-
Body fat percentage
A direct measurement, not an estimate from a handheld device or a formula based on your height.
-
Lean muscle, by limb
Left arm versus right, legs versus trunk. Imbalances show up clearly — useful after injury or a training block.
-
Visceral fat
The fat around your organs — the kind most closely tied to metabolic health, and invisible from the outside.
-
Bone density
The same technology used clinically to assess bone health, giving you a baseline to track over the years.
How a visit works
In and out in under half an hour.
Book online
Pick a time and pay up front. You'll complete a short health screening questionnaire when you book — it takes about a minute.
Lie still, ten minutes
You stay fully clothed in comfortable clothes without metal. The scanner passes over you while you rest on your back. Nothing touches you.
Get your report
Emailed to you immediately after the scan — before you have left the building. No waiting period, no follow-up appointment, no login to keep paying for.

Afterwards
The report is yours, and it goes with you.
The full report lands in your inbox immediately after the scan. Not a summary, not a teaser with the detail held back — the complete set of measurements, in a form you can forward to somebody.
We measure. We don't interpret.
What your numbers mean in the context of your health history is a conversation for your physician, and we'd rather be straight about that than have a technician improvise it. Take the report to your doctor, your dietitian, your trainer — or nobody at all. It's yours, and it doesn't live behind a login you have to keep paying for.
Why Basemarks
Precision, without the runaround.
Body composition testing shouldn't require a doctor's note, a membership, or a sales pitch. We built Basemarks to be the straightforward option.
- No referral requiredAnyone can book directly. You don't need a physician's order to find out what your body is made of.
- Physician-supervised Scanning will be performed under a licensed Georgia physician’s written standing order, and every guest will complete a health screening beforehand.
- Measured, not estimatedSmart scales and handheld devices infer body fat from electrical resistance, which moves with how hydrated you are. DEXA measures the tissue directly.
- Very low radiation doseA whole-body DEXA scan delivers a small fraction of a standard chest X-ray. It is not appropriate during pregnancy.
- No trackers, no data salesThis site carries no advertising or analytics tags. We don't sell your data and we don't share it with advertisers.
Common questions
Before you come in.
Do I need a referral from a doctor?
No. Anyone can book a scan directly — you do not need an order from your own physician to find out what your body is made of.
You will complete a short health screening questionnaire when you book, as the supervising physician’s standing order will require. It takes about a minute — but it is not an order from your own doctor, and you do not need one.
Is there a doctor involved?
There will be. Georgia requires that X-ray-based testing be performed under a licensed physician’s written standing order, and we are putting that arrangement in place before we open. We will name our medical director on this site, with credentials, once it is signed.
What it does not mean is that you are seeing a doctor. There is no consultation, no examination and no diagnosis — the standing order governs who may be scanned and how they are screened. Interpreting your results in the context of your medical history stays a conversation for your own physician.
We would rather explain this plainly than let it sound like more, or less, than it is.
How long does it take, and when do I get results?
The scan itself takes about ten minutes, and you are typically in and out in under half an hour.
Your report is generated on the spot and emailed to you immediately after the scan — before you have left the building. There is no waiting period and no follow-up appointment required.
How much radiation is involved?
A whole-body DEXA scan delivers a very low dose of X-ray. Published effective doses for whole-body composition scans on modern scanners are in the range of roughly 0.4 to 5 microsieverts, depending on the machine and scan mode.
For comparison, the average person in the United States receives about 3,000 microsieverts per year from natural background radiation alone — meaning a whole-body scan is comparable to a few hours of simply being alive outdoors, and a small fraction of a standard chest X-ray.
The dose is low, but it is not zero, which is why the screening questionnaire exists.
Is there anyone who should not get a DEXA scan?
Yes. DEXA scanning is not appropriate during pregnancy, or if there is any chance you may be pregnant.
You should also postpone your scan if you have recently had a procedure using contrast dye, barium, or a radioactive tracer — these can interfere with the measurement. As a general rule, allow at least seven days after a contrast study and consult us if you are unsure.
Metal implants, joint replacements and surgical hardware are generally not a problem, but tell us in advance so we can account for them.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing with no metal — no zippers, buckles, underwire, rivets or metal buttons. Athletic wear is close to ideal. Bring socks.
You stay fully clothed for the entire scan. You will be asked to remove jewellery, your watch, glasses and anything in your pockets.
What tests do you offer?
Three. A DEXA scan for body composition and bone density, a VO₂ max test for cardiorespiratory fitness, and an RMR test for resting metabolic rate.
They answer different questions and they complement each other. DEXA tells you what you are made of. VO₂ max tells you what your cardiovascular system can do. RMR tells you what you actually burn at rest, measured from your breath rather than guessed at from a formula based on your height and age.
You can book any one of them on its own. Booked together they take under an hour and give you a genuinely complete baseline.
What does it cost?
Our grand-opening price for a DEXA scan will be $50. That is the price you pay — not a "from" figure that changes at checkout. VO₂ max and RMR are priced separately, and we will publish those exact figures before booking opens.
Before we get there we are running a preview period: a smaller group of early guests, while we get the booking flow, the scheduling and the report turnaround right. Those guests pay $20 for their first DEXA scan. Anyone who joins our list before we open is in that group — there is no cap on numbers.
It is a straight trade. You get the scan for well under half price, and you put up with a studio still finding its feet. We get real people through the room and honest feedback about what feels awkward. The preview rate covers the DEXA scan only — VO₂ max and RMR take substantially longer and cost more to run.
When are you opening, and where exactly?
We are opening in Duluth, Georgia, serving Gwinnett County and the north metro Atlanta area. Leave your email on our updates page and we will send you the address and the opening date as soon as they are confirmed.
